All About Jon Doe

Experienced Animal Trainer

Sharing your home with an animal can be a dream or a nightmare. Making sure your animal is well trained will give both of you more time to enjoy each other’s company. My modern training system is full of fun techniques that will give you and your pet a happier life together.

Street Wise Canine was founded in 2000, and has developed a very special reputation with my customers and their owners in San Francisco. I believe that being firm and having a clear set of boundaries is one thing, but being fierce is just not necessary. I don’t believe in choke collars, or that using a leash is the only way to teach an animal discipline. Dogs, and many other animals, are social animals, who enjoy love and family life. Let’s get them out of the dog house, give them more positive re-enforcement, and turn them into another family member.

Cher Wood

Owner/Behaviour Consultant

My name is Cher Wood, I am located in Ottawa, Ontario and have been established for over a decade. I hate to give the classic dog trainer speech, you know, the “ I grew up with dogs and fell in love”, but I don’t really see a way around that, because it is so deeply who I am. I had the honour of being born into this profession. I really couldn’t see my life going any other way, so I decided to become a Professional Dog Trainer. Today my life consists of 8 dogs, all shapes and sizes, an amazing husband and daughter. Oh, and lets not forget my love of all creatures, because I also own rabbits, guinea pigs and a cat! I hope you enjoying learning from my experiences and create the same amazing relationship I have with all my creatures.

Monika Lisak

Head Trainer

Monika grew up with dogs and learned from an early age that each dog is unique and has different ways of learning. This was brought to light even more when she started working with rescue dogs for the better part of 10 years, fostering, training, working with foster homes and adopters all confirmed the great need for trainers to help people work with their dogs and create a happy, harmonious and balanced relationship. Every dog deserves to live in a healthy state of mind each and everyday! Monika specializes in one on one training due to her amazing understanding of dogs and her client relationship skills. Monika does all of our in home consultations.

Our Training Philosophy

Dillon Black

Cher is an incredible person and trainer.
In a split second she was able to help a beautiful bulldog that had no hope. He was set to be euthanized due to “aggression” and out of the kindness of her heart and her love for animals she decided to help us out by taking him in without even knowing anything about him! Cher worked with him and he trusted her. She was able to bring him out of his shell and stop being so fear-based. It’s so clear that he was abused and he just needed a little TLC. He is honestly the best dog and if it wasn’t for Cher he wouldn’t be here today! Thank you Cher and Streetwise Canine for everything you do! You are experts at what you do and you literally turn lives around! Ziggy and I say thank you

The Help Center

We do not discriminate against certain breeds, big or small we train them all!

People think they’re only training during planned training sessions when in reality, animals are continually being rewarded for good and bad behaviours all day. As a result of the lack of awareness owners often spend more time accidentally rewarding the undesirable behaviours than rewarding the desirable ones. your answer, write clearly, and consider adding examples. This can help your visitors get the help they need quickly and easily.

No. While it’s essential that we focus on reinforcing good behaviours, it’s equally important to remove rewards for undesirable behaviour. If both are not done equally, then the animal will continue to be confused as to which behaviour you want and a good habit will never be formed. We use corrections to motivate your dog not to continue bad behaviours, just like we reward a dog to motivate him to continue good behaviour.

That depends on how much time and effort you are willing to invest. You would be surprised at how quickly your dog can learn new behaviours. Once training with SWC is complete,  it is just the beginning of your dog’s life-long learning.

We accept interact money transfers and cash.

No.  Be wary of trainers who guarantee dog training results.   Behaviour is fluid and ever changing, and your dog is not a furry computer that can be reprogrammed.  The success of any dog training program depends on many factors, many of which can’t be ethically placed under a guarantee.
